Ethan Allen fiscal year earnings jump 46%

Ethan Allen posted an increase of 46% in net income for the fiscal year ended Jun. 30, 1997, at $71.1 million on sales of $679.3 million, up by 18.8% from the year-ago figure. The company attributes the increase to its efforts of repositioning, including updated styling, expanded product lines and more amiable prices. The furniture manufacturer and retailer also has strengthened its network of 310 stores, with more than half of them in new locations over the past six years. The repositioning is entering the second phase, which will focus on growing and servicing the business.
