J. Marshall buys uph. producer Fair Line

Article Abstract:

J. Marshall Designs, a manufacturer of slipcovers, has purchased Fair Line Manufacturing, a producer of transitional upholstered furniture, for an undisclosed amount. Both privately held companies are to continue marketing and shipping their products under their own brand names. J. Marshall Vice President Jim Trowbridge stated that the purchase of Fair Line will enable the company to expand its upholstery production and to enhance its leather furniture brand. Trowbridge added that J. Marshall aims to maintain Fair Line's established customer base but intends to retail it into a more lifestyle-oriented distribution.

Rowe completes Mitchell Gold buy

Article Abstract:

Rowe Furniture, a medium-priced upholstery maker, has finalized its purchase of Taylorsville, NC-based Mitchell Gold Co. for up to $32 million. High-end, fashion-driven upholstery manufacturer Mitchell Gold will continue to conduct business as a distinct unit. The terms of the agreement also called for Mitchell Gold founders, Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams to retain their title as president and executive vice president, respectively. Part of the acquisition also called for Gold and Williams to distribute 300,000 shares of Rowe stock among its work force totaling 3,000.
