JCPenney to expand

Article Abstract:

JCPenney plans to open no less than 11 free-standing home stores in 1999 or so. The retailer currently operates 34 home stores, four of which were only opened in 1998. Company president and chief operating officer John T. Cody stated that the number of JCPenney stores that will be opened in addition to the planned free-standing stores will depend on the availability of opportunities. Another key factor is the distance of the location from the mother store. Cody said the ideal location is in a power strip mall across from the regional center where the mother store is housed.
