The West Coast is losing ground with retailers due to the recession. In styling, the West Coast is second to none, but stores need a guarantee of delivery of large orders in advance. But due to financial difficulties and obtaining credit, the western manufacturers are losing out. Eastern companies are generally larger and better financed, and stores are looking for stable firms in a recession.

Levitz riding recovery wave: sales approach $600 million

Business is booming at Levitz, which expects to double its home-furnishings sales in five years. In addition to the warehouse showrooms, Levitz plans to open satellite and specialty stores, expanding into smaller markets such as the Pacific Northwest. Attention to consumer attitudes and aggressive merchandising contribute to this company's success.

Family sells stock in Kroehler Mfg

Kroehler family sold thier interest in the upholstery furniture company - the new owners plan to help this financially troubled company - Kroehler cut its losses in the first quarter by $197,000 to $1.9 million.
