Renters Choice posts 34% 2Q profits

Renters Choice attributes its overall second quarter 1998 profit increase of 34% from the year before, including a 39% jump to $17.4 million in operating earnings, to the strong performance of its mature stores. The 679-store chain that is considered a new leader in the rent-to-own industry, also listed earnings of $8.5 million on of $103.3 million in the quarter ended June 30, 1998. Renters Choice Chairman Ernie Talley, credits the improved figures to the management's near-singular focus in the past year, on training and building management depth.
