SEC drops Jennifer investigation

Jennifer Convertibles of Woodbury, NY, has been cleared in a probe conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC told the 175-store retailer that it has closed the investigation that started in early 1995 and that no legal action has been recommended by the agency against the company. Jennifer, which is still facing class action lawsuits in New York's federal court arising from the decline of the firm's stock prices in 1994, is hoping to have all its legal problems resolved by the end of 1998 in order to focus on its expansion.

Z Gallerie expands presence with larger stores, new sites

Article Abstract:

Specialty furniture retailer Z Gallerie has announced its plans to open stores in Tempe, AZ, the Seattle area, Chicago and Miami. The retailer will also consider opportunities in other cosmopolitan markets that are attuned to its lifestyle merchandising strategy. As a result of the expansion, Z Gallerie's stores are also becoming bigger in order to accommodate greater varieties of furniture that now comprise 50% of its sales compared to 34% three years ago.
