Maximum allowable D-values for gram negative bacteria: Determining killing rates required in aqueous cosmetics

Article Abstract:

Aqueous cosmetics in multiple use containers can be subject to microbial contamination and spoilage, unless they are preserved and packaged satisfactorily. Preservative efficacy testing determines effective concentrations of preservatives need to provide sufficient preservation. Methods include the US Pharmacopeia, British Pharmacopeia and European Pharmacopeia. The microbial contamination of aqueous products, particularly by gram negative bacteria is often sporadic and is thought to be due to lack of good manufacturing practices.

'Sleeping giant' awakens in Harrods' presentation

New York-based ABC Carpets has partnered with Harrods to bring $6 million worth of rugs into London. The collection, housed at a 6,000-sq-ft space in the London department store, is similar in design to those sold in New York and is sourced through the close collaboration of officials at both companies. Harrods general manager for furniture and furnishings, Phillip Anderson, has viewed the entry of ABC Carpets as an opportunity to provide a wider choice of carpets to customers that include tourists and business travellers.
