Top 25 U.S. department stores

Article Abstract:

A list ranks the top 25 department stores in the US, based in the estimated 1997 sales of furniture and bedding. JCPenney, of Plano, TX, ranks first, with $747 million in estimated furniture and bedding sales in 1997; followed by Rich's Lazarus Goldsmith's, of Atlanta, GA, with $176.3 million; at third comes Macy's East, of New York, with $143.3 million. The list also provides information on stores ownership, headquarters, affiliation, and pertinent notes; estimated furniture and bedding sales in 1996; percentage change from 1996 result; furniture and bedding sales as a percent of the store's total sales; and total number of stores. All data are market research estimates of the Furniture/Today publication.
