Upholstery FR regs moving slowly: passage of standard not likely before '05

Article Abstract:

Proposed legislation to revise California's Technical Bulletin 117 (CTB 117) would allow upholstered furniture makers to use fabrics or components resistant to both small open flames and smoldering cigarettes. But the steps leading to the passage of this legislation would extend unto next year.

Fire marshals push Calif. Upholstery safety regs

The National Association of State Fire Marshals in a letter to United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has asked to consider adopting the proposed California regulation as the standard to prevent upholstered furniture fires. A complete overview on the issue is presented.
