The European Court of Human Rights awarded Duncan Lustig-Prean, Jeanette Smith, John Beckett and Graeme Grady about 81, 000 pounds each, plus legal costs, in compensation for their dismissals from UK armed forces. A recent ruling led the UK to change its rules about homosexuals and military service. The new code of conduct is explained. Personnel dismissed in the past for homosexuality may rejoin the armed forces.

Formal investigation finds race inequality persists

According to Sir David Calvert Smith there is considerable progress on racial equality issue within the England and Wales' police service. However, there is still much to be achieved in respect of fairness and respect for ethnic minorities. Sir Calvert Smith led the Commission for Racial Equality's formal investigation on the racial equality in police service of England and Wales.
