Automate time and attendance recording

Article Abstract:

Automated time and attendance systems accept punches and determine the time between punches as related to company policies. The three most common types of systems are card generated systems, badge systems, and systems which require employees to enter a personal identification number into a keypad. Selecting hardware for a system should include consideration of: whether applications besides time and attendance are desired; ease of installation; service reputation and policies of the vendor; and mean time between failure. Software selection should be preceded by gathering detailed information on how employee working hours are calculated by the payroll department, which should be made available to the software vendors. It may also be advisable to seek advice from the company MIS or data processing department.
