Board members' responsibilities and priorities: USA

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted among boards of directors revealed that shareholder interest is the paramount concern of most respondents. Directors likewise indicated what they believed were their primary responsibilities and the degree of influence they exerted on management decisions. Strategic or corporate planning was given high priority. While respondents believed in greater accountability for the board, only a very small minority had instituted formal evaluation processes.

Report on board pay in FT-SE 100 companies: UK

Article Abstract:

Monks Patnership has published its 1996 annual study of directors' wages among FT-SE 100 companies. The study, based on UK company annual reports, includes additional information on wages of other executive directors, a new requirement in company annual reports. The study analyzes compensation management by market capitalization, business sector, and turnover. It covers CEO or chairman, divisional director and finance director.

Balancing work and family responsibilities: USA

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted by Hewitt Assoc among 1000 major employers indicated that almost 70% of respondents had child-care assistance programs. Such attention given to child care is an indication of the companies' concern with providing their personnel with a means to meet obligations and fulfill responsibilities to family and work without sacrificing one or the other.
