Career moves

Article Abstract:

Health and safety professionals need to obtain qualifications in health and safety, and the four main routes are through a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), and undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree. Those following a NEBOSH Diploma route are usually already employed in occupational health and safety. Such a course can be studied part time and the cost is relatively low. The NEBOSH diploma and most of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses are accredited by IOSH.

Clearing the air

Article Abstract:

Control of air pollution is an important factor in some workplaces. Employers often install local exhaust ventilation systems (LEV.) It is important to ensure that the system captures all the waste matter that is being emitted, and that clean air reaches the operator. Any fumes heavier than air must be captured also. A LEV installation should be discussed with the operators, and the amount of pollution identified.
