Caring for small firms

Article Abstract:

Small- and medium-sized businesses have limited access to occupational health (OH) services, prompting some policy makers and practitioners to examine how primary care can help deliver OH support. Occupational Health Projects (OHP), established in 1979 and based in GP surgeries, are aimed at offering patients without access to OH services advice on occupation health issues. A typical project is Leeds OHP which is based in a GP surgery and which offers OH advice to 30 other surgeries in the area. It is hoped that such units will receive national backing.

All together now: Bringing together disparate voices, the National Occupational Health forum aims to make Government do 'something, anything, about occupational health'

Article Abstract:

The TUC-Health & Safety at Work journal's National Occupational Health Forum (NOHF) has attracted the attention of interested parties within occupational health and safety (OHS). It has also provided a forum whereby employe and employer representation is combined, alongside OHS practitioners. The TUC's Owen Tudor and the Institute of Occupational Health's Professor Malcolm Harrington are the driving forces behind the Forum. Its future work will be partly shaped by the outcomes of the White Paper and the strategy-plan of the HSE.
