Commission issues EWCs report

Article Abstract:

The European Commission issued a report on application of the European Works Councils Directive which focused on implementation measures of the 1994 Directive in member nations. Five countries implemented the Directive by the date requested, while Portugal and Luxembourg were singled out in the report because of their problems with implementation.

Conciliation committee agrees working time Directive extension

Article Abstract:

Which workers are excluded from the European Union's 1993 working time Directive is being debated. New definitions of "mobile worker," "offshore work," and "adequate rest" are discussed. Some exclusions are based on workers who have to spend time away from home, such as those in transportation and fishing.

Social initiatives set to form EU focus

Article Abstract:

European Works Council published a report on application of the European Commission's working time Directive. The directive applied to firms employing more than 1,000 with at least 150 employees in two European Union nations. Social structures within transnational companies are at issue.
