Communicating change

Article Abstract:

Many organizational-change initiatives fail because of faulty communication structures and lack of employee acceptance of the change. Cases and studies show how change efforts can be communicated properly within the organization. Special telephone hotlines, newsletters, communication centers, open forums with executives and video presentations are all effective tools for imparting information about change in the organization. However, executives also have to walk the talk if employees are to believe their commitment to change. They have to demonstrate visible and consistent support for change, and they have to listen to what employees think about the change proposal. They should also avoid having employees learn about the change effort from outsiders because this only feeds mistrust within the workforce.
