Comparing assistant roles in education and social care: backgrounds, behaviours and boundaries

Article Abstract:

The characters of assistant roles in public services are studied: the teaching assistant and the social work assistant. They have largely been neglected despite having increased importance in the modernization of the public sector. The social work assistant is more likely to be a substitute and has a broader co-production role than the teaching assistant.
