Custody/lending split sets new course

Article Abstract:

Securities lending is emerging to be an independent business. Corollary to this is the development of different types of lenders: custody banks, brokers/dealers, investment advisers and independents. The separation of custodian bank lending and securities lending was brought about by the realization that lending is an investment management product calling for sophisticated skills. Lending specialists and cash management specialists will emerge as two different disciplines but lenders with access to information will survive.
