Disability

Article Abstract:

Economic difficulties and high unemployment have brought about an increase in the number of pension recipients and disability claimants in Switzerland. The Federal Insurance Court defines disability, in the context of the Swiss federal disability insurance, as a long-term or permanent impairment of the physical or mental health due to a birth defect, sickness or an accident. Swiss old age, retirement and disability coverage is based on the three-pillar concept, namely, social security, occupational benefits and private coverage.

Protecting the consumer from the knave

Article Abstract:

Basic regulatory systems for banks can protect costumers who are unaware that the financial policy they are buying are not suitable or unneeded. The book of economics professor George J. Benston entitled 'Regulating Financial Markets,' proposes a version of a regulatory system that could solve the problems recurrent in the present financial environments. Not only would it prevent over-charging in annual percentage rates, it would also safeguard against increasing administrative costs of pensions.

Winds of change in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

Dutch workers are calling for another round of collective labor agreements to ask for lesser working hours per week and more flexible benefit packages and labor negotiation methods. These demands will force the current system under the Social Economic Council to restructure its labor policies. Meanwhile, the country also has to cope with rising unemployment, competition in foreign markets and a rising budget deficit.
