Employee benefit developments

Article Abstract:

The unpublished internal regulations and procedures of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have a substantial effect on the way labor law provisions are interpreted and implemented. Employers in Dubai and the other UAE states need to know the provisions in the labor law relating to workmen's compensation. Provisions include an obligatory minimum benefit of Dh 18,000 and a maximum of Dh 35,000 for death due to an accident at work or an occupational disease.

Employee mobility in the EU

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has been active in enhancing the benefits and compensation of employees working in countries other than their home country. However, when the Commission tried to set in motion uniform vesting regulations for all EU countries, several member states disagreed, with Germany indicating the strongest resistance. In 1996, a high level group initiated regulations that would ensure accrued rights up to the time of transfer of pension rights.
