Employers must recognize that older people want to work

Article Abstract:

Some organizations are learning that older workers can provide many benefits to the workplace including good work habits and high productivity, but statistics provided by the American Association of Retired Persons reveal that 10 million retirees want to work but cannot find jobs. Recruiters interested in hiring older workers need to be aware that older employees are motivated by different factors than younger workers. Typically, retirees want to earn money, develop new skills, and obtain health benefits. Additionally, recruiters need to be aware that retirees often believe employers are not willing to hire them because of their age. Recruiters will need to counter these fears and promote attractive selling points such as organizations which provide: accommodations for physical limitations; restructuring of jobs; and adapted training programs.

AIDS issues haven't gone away

Article Abstract:

American companies are beginning to see the importance of providing AIDS education to their workers. Three companies illustrate the value of such programs in increasing AIDS awareness of employees to dispel fear and ignorance of the disease. The Prudential Insurance Company of America began its HIV training seminars in 1987 and has integrated the seminars into its human resources training program. The international law firm Morrison and Foerster similarly initiated its HIV program in 1987. Nissan Motor Corporation USA implemented its HIV education programs to assist managers and supervisors in crisis situations resulting from social and legal issues concerning AIDS in the workplace.
