Enabling the disabled

Article Abstract:

Disabled workers represent a massive underused pool of labour, but many employers continue to exclude this large section of the workforce. Labour Force Survey data indicates that 14% of the UK's working population has a disability or health problem which restricts what type of work they are able to do. The UK's Disability Discrimination Act, which takes effect in Dec. 1996, widens the definition of a disabled person. Employers need to break away from the myths that surround disabled workers, and sometimes they may need to adapt the working environment or the work flow.
