How good are integrity tests?

Article Abstract:

Integrity tests are designed to measure the personality traits of new employees. These questionnaires are principally designed to gauge the tendencies for theft of employees. It is vital that human resources professionals ensure the validity of these tests for selection and recruitment purposes. The possibility that answers to these tests can be faked is one area of concern. The moral and ethical aspects of using integrity tests is also an area of great concern, specifically relating to the invasion of privacy and the labelling of test takers as liabilities. Personnel professionals should also be reminded of the limitations of integrity tests as predictors of job performance. The selection of employees should be based on the consideration of other indicators such as interviews and background checks.

A retrospective analysis of Australian women's representation in management in large and small banks

Article Abstract:

The finance sector in Australia has very poor representation of women in management, even though claims to the contrary are made. For this reason, research has sought to establish whether the representation of women in management has risen for the four large banks between 1988 to 1989 and 1995 to 1996 and for three small banks between 1991 to 1992 and 1995 to 1996. Women remain twice as likely to become managers in the small banks than in the large banks, but this gap is diminishing. This research identified a lower proportion of women in senior management than some past Australian studies.
