Hypocrisy rife in company ethics

Article Abstract:

An Industrial Society survey of UK managers indicates ethical standards are considered important but often are not upheld in practice. Employee grievance procedures, handling customer complaints, promoting safety measures and, most prominently, fostering respect for employees are all cited as examples of ethical management. Almost 70% of those surveyed cited a gap between ethical theory and actual policy decisions. Ethical standards have become more important as companies increasingly rely on employee handbooks, ethical codes, and surveys to convey ethical principles.

Comparing business ethics in Russia and the US

Article Abstract:

A comparative survey of seventy-three Russians and nine-two US managers, differences and similarities in ethical decision making among respondents from the two countries within a business context are explored. Results indicate that, while Americans, in general, tend to assess certain actions as less ethical when applying utilitarian or justice criteria, the ethical judgments of the two groups differed by situation and by criteria employed.
