Integrate HRIS and payroll

Article Abstract:

The successful integration of payroll and human resources information systems can be hindered by historic interdepartmental rivalries, lack of support from top management, and organizational culture. The strategies of five companies that successfully integrated the departmental functions are presented. The firms include Cushman & Wakefield Inc, Jefferson-Pilot Communications Co, and Payco American Corp. Cushman & Wakefield found responsibilities were and still are an evolving process. Jefferson-Pilot implemented a system to integrate and decentralize remote locations. The integrated system installed by Payco American enables the company to assign two data processing professionals to other areas.

Find new uses for an old HRIS

Article Abstract:

Human resources (HR) managers should identify new ways to increase and expand the usage of aging human resources information systems (HRIS) and computer hardware in their current environment. The benefits of enhancing old HRISs include reducing frustration as companies wait for new systems, and extending or even eliminating the need to buy a new HRIS. The steps HR managers should take to improving the usage of old HRISs include employing innovative thinking, avoiding stumbling blocks to innovative thinking by thinking big, and assessing the feasibility of new ideas.
