Italy: a change of direction in benefits and compensation practices

Article Abstract:

Italian benefits and pension packages are characterized by government-mandated provisions which give generous allotments to employees. As a result, employers are given very little leeway in choosing pension schemes. The detrimental effects of such a policy have prompted legislators to restructure the existing regulatory framework. However, the Italian government's role in pensions and health care is expected to remain significant.

Organizational and departmental change can affect employee behavior. The supervisor can help ease change implementation by employing the tool of communication. Facilitation of change can be achieved by communication with employees. A step by step process should be followed. The steps include not demanding cooperation, understanding employee resistance to change, and encouragement of employee participation in decision making.
