Job transfers and job - bid systems in restructuring Japanese and American firms

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis between Japanese and United States firms on restructuring of firms resulting in employee shifting or lay-off revealed that, the Japanese firms did not fire their employees but transferred them either internally or externally. The American firms on the other hand used the job-bid systems-systems that identify openings and allow individuals at their own choosing to bid for openings. The Japanese employment system was characterized by management control and stable employment.

Human resource management for international joint ventures: expatriation and selective control

Article Abstract:

The basic attitude of companies as a matter of principle assigns expatriates into key joint venture positions could be one of the fundamental reasons for human resource problems. Building on transaction cost economies, it is argued that selective control via functional gatekeepers instead of overall control offers an efficient mechanism to reduce opportunistic behavior in joint-venture relationships.
