Know, think, see safety

Article Abstract:

Bayer implemented a safety programme at its Selby, UK, plant because there were too many accidents, and people were not thinking enough about safety issues. Bayer enlisted help from 3M Occupational Health, and occupational psychologists, who trained 12 staff to recognize and record incidences of unsafe practices. These staff also noted down numbers of staff who were complying with safety equipment requirements and asked staff to record their own safety practices. Compliance with safety guidelines is now almost 100% and staff have not slipped back into unsafe practices.
