Lung-damaged miners settle largest ever personal injury action - estimated 1.65 billion payout

Article Abstract:

It is possible that former UK miners will receive a total of up to 1.65 billion pounds sterling in compensation for lung disease resulting from exposure to mine dust and nitrous fumes while working for British Coal Corp. The High Court has agreed a compensation scheme for miners following six lead cases in which British Coal was found negligent. More than 65,000 claims have already been made by former miners. Their lung function will be analyzed using spirometry at 30 specialist centres.

TUC demands new deal for damaged workers

Assessing risks for pregnant workers

The European Commission has released guidelines industrial safety for pregnant women. The Commission identified agents and processes in agency that impose high risk on a pregnant woman and her fetus.
