Managing SHE in the Millennium

Article Abstract:

Some observers suggest using Integrated Management Systems for health and safety may be too time consuming. Delegating the responsibility for safety issues to line managers may lead to incompetence. Problems may arise when safety issues conflict with the needs of production. Others suggest integrated management can be successful in the management of health, safety and the environment. They see the integrated method of dealing with health and safety creates a greater team effort to improve conditions. A safety audit will help to measure the effectivity of safety and health procedures.

What is Hepatitis A?

Article Abstract:

Employers have to be aware of the health risks of Hepatitis A because it is highly infectious and can be transmitted to customers by employees who are carriers. Employers are required by law to undertake risk assessments to protect employees who are at risk. Childcare workers are particularly vulnerable because young children rarely show symptoms of infection. Other healthcare workers, those in the prison service and the armed forces are also at high risk. People who have had it are then immune but they may have passed it on. Severe cases can cause liver damage.
