Mapping a course for the future

Article Abstract:

Nineteen ninety-four was a difficult year for U.S. pension fund managers. A negative rate of return on long-term bonds was experienced due to the low levels of fixed income of domestic markets. Nineteen ninety-five could be another difficult year. Market trends indicate that the household sector is becoming a risk-taker. Traditional lending and investing institutions play a smaller part in the financial markets. The three important conditions of financial change are the emergence of mutual funds and their importance, increase in credit creation and the growth of financial derivatives in changing the market.
