Mending but not ending Social Security: the individual accounts plan

Article Abstract:

The Social Security Advisory Council's approaches to fixing the foreseen lack of Old-Age, Survivors and Disability (OASDI) Trust Fund assets by 2030 represent the solutions to deeper issues in the Social Security system. Changing demographics resulting in a rise in the ratio of retirees versus workers and the forecast of a low real wage base expansion are the primary issues that are emphasized in the Advisory Council's approaches. The Advisory Council's Individual Accounts plan focuses on the tow issues to come up with a solution that affords effective changes to the Social Security system.

Will the Social Security system continue to offer Social Security?

Article Abstract:

The Social Security Advisory Council's proposed changes to the Social Security system is likely to affect the goals of Social Security as an institution. The Advisory Council's suggestions for the reform of the Social Security system, which separately focus on payroll tax increases and the introduction of individual retirement accounts, shows the need for fund reform due to demographic changes. Meanwhile, the US government may have to enact programs aimed at changing population demographics if certain projections are affected by unanticipated changes.

The need for Social Security reform and the implications of funding benefits through personal security accounts

Article Abstract:

The Social Security Advisory Council's Personal Security Accounts Plan addresses the need to solve the expected funding deficit for Old-Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance (OASDI) programs. Meanwhile, the need to balance Social security finances should be taken with other federal fiscal operations borne in mind. Funding personal accounts as a means of reforming the Social Security system offers future retirees improved benefits while also raising the required tax dollars for the program's maintenance.
