Nursing homes-lifting the burden

Article Abstract:

An attitude that nursing homes are dangerous places to work in, with some of them showing higher injury figures than other dangerous professions are presented. Agencies are taking the initiative to ensure safer working conditions for the employees and are encouraging employers to implement basic changes in their set-up.

Many workers become the victim of manual handling accidents and injuries like pinched toes, dropped loads and repetitive strain. Mechanical devices like cranes, positioners, vacuum devices can be used to reduce the risk of injury while lifting.

Communicating with objects

The design of displays and controls from an ergonomic perspective are evaluated in terms of safety and usability. The factors to be considered while selecting the types of display are discussed.
