Pension manager or loan officer?

Article Abstract:

Big companies can offer the loan option in their pension management plans and realize the increased participation among employees. The results of a survey of 900 firms showed that the potential disadvantage in terms of increased administrative costs is outweighed by the enthusiasm of employees for the plan because of the thought that they would have access to funds without having to resort to the humiliating process of claiming hardship to withdraw their funds. The study also indicated that the danger of increased short-term withdrawals as a result of the loan option is negated by technological support in big companies.

Why Monsanto prefers active and NYNEX likes indexing

Article Abstract:

Companies differ in their choice of investment portfolio management. For defined benefit pension funds, companies such as Monsanto and to a lesser extent, the Minnesota State Board use active investment methods. On the other hand, RJR Nabisco, General Electric Co. and NYNEX prefer indexation methods. While active management seems to be the more popular method for pension fund investments, many companies still prefer indexing because of its cost-efficiency.

401(k) communication that works

Article Abstract:

Greater emphasis on personal responsibility is motivating a growing number of employers to provide investment education programs. A good program takes the audience into account, sets specific goals, uses media to reach its target audience and has provisions for measuring results. The investment education programs of such companies as Xerox, TWA and Nestle are discussed.
