Policy implementation

Article Abstract:

UK employers are working hard to make employees aware of their sexual harassment policies, according a 1996 survey. Over 50% of employers surveyed provide staff training in this area to those likely to handle complaints, while 90% have communicated their policies to employees via handbooks, manuals, posters, and similar means. Some employers are attempting to measure harassment levels via surveys; half of the employers also monitor their own procedures. Many employers negotiated with their unions prior to instituting a policy. Awareness training is also offered to all staff in some companies.

Tacking harassment at Suffolk County Council

Article Abstract:

UK's Suffolk County Council has introduced a tougher policy on workplace sexual harassment as part of its overall anti-harassment policy. Based on wide range of input and two years of study, the revised policy is a response to the inherent limits in the earlier policy and increased awareness of the problem. The revised policy creates a cadre of independent harassment advisers charged with providing an alternative to traditional complaint procedures. Counseling is also available under the revised procedure, which itself is the focus of a publicity campaign.
