Report from Argentina: investment

Article Abstract:

The business pension fund asset management in Argentina has considerable potential for growth and a highly-conducive regulatory atmosphere and the consolidation of the private-administered compulsory social protection system imposed since August 1994. While the economy has been characterized as being undercapitalized and deficits are being partly financed by the public through peso-denominated bonds, interest rates in pesos are relatively high, enabling extraordinary positive yields to be earned by special social-system administrators called AFJPs. The country's strict regulations forbid AFJPs to invest in shareholders or concentrate assets in individual companies or economic segments.
