A new engine of change in employee relations

Article Abstract:

Rover Group PLC utilizes teamwork and total quality management in employee relations for its K series engine development program. Functional boundaries are disregarded in project management in an effort towards team building and outdoor development training. The British automobile manufacturer practices a system wherein the functions of process, quality and industrial engineering are made to work as a single unit that is in direct contact with a conformance manager. The company's decision-making process is consultative in style in an effort to improve industrial relations by shifting away from the unilateral style of the past. Total quality improvement is centered on prevention and not on detection. The quality program is led by management and has the objective of increasing customer satisfaction.

Has industry seen the green light?

Article Abstract:

Companies increasingly are attempting to cast themselves in an environmentally-friendly image, and these efforts are usually spearheaded by marketing, public relations, and technical people. However, personnel experts agree that the participation of personnel professionals in the greening of corporations may be critical to success. Personnel professionals can play key roles by coordinating efforts through training and maintaining lines of communication. Personnel professionals also can conduct environmental audits: a documented, periodic evaluation of management systems and structures and performance that reports on the environmental aspect of all facets of businesses.
