Self-monitoring and performance appraisal satisfaction: an exploratory field study

Article Abstract:

In a five-company study, satisfaction was at first found to be high when employees did self-ratings and supervisor appraisals along with receiving their performance reviews. However, satisfaction proved to be low when the degree of approval of employees on the reviews was examined.

Performance management and assessment: Methods for improved rater accuracy and employee goal setting

Article Abstract:

The gaps between research and practice in the areas of rater accuracy and goal setting are examined. Considering this, the theory-based research suggests ways to help raters recognize expected performance and enable employees to self-regulate their pursuit of goals.

Peer appraisals: differentiation of individual performance on group tasks

Article Abstract:

A study of peer appraisals found that when students rated their team peers and the ratings affected their grades, very little differentiation was seen in the ratings. More study is needed in how a group dynamic affects peer appraisals.
