Self-reinforcing behavior change

Article Abstract:

Training and education offer employees new skills, but after training is complete, new skills must be reinforced within organizations. One successful method to implement new habits and generate feedback about work behavior combines focused behavioral goals, job aids, and routines. Trainers are encouraged to enlist the support of trainees by having them reinforce each other throughout retraining and readjustment periods. Follow-up activities, such as questionnaires to trainees, seminars to reinforce new skills, and brief encouraging bulletins, are also recommended. However, a key ingredient to integrating new work behaviors in trainees is to encourage feedback and praise from supervisors.

U.S. businesses suffer from workplace trauma

Article Abstract:

Workplace trauma, which is caused by employee abuse, is resulting in decreased productivity for companies, as well as increased costs related to lawsuits, outplacement, workers' compensation, and health care. Some 94% of the workers' compensation claims resulting from mental stressors are the result of cumulative psychic workplace trauma. The steps that organizations can take to deal with workplace authority problems include training managers to behave in a risk-reducing manner in achieving the corporate mission, replacing misinformed opinions with new management strategies, and becoming committed to employee integrity and corporate values.
