Social policy state of play

Article Abstract:

Two health and safety proposals were adopted by the Council of Minister headed by the Irish government. The proposals are aimed at protecting workers from the risks of exposure to electromagnetic fields and exposure to carcinogens. A reform to the social security Regulation 1408/71 on takeover bids was also adopted. The proposals and the draft treaties arrived at during the first six months of 2004 are presented.

EU campaign against risks of dangerous substances at work

Article Abstract:

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has started a campaign across the European Union to combat the risks of dangerous substances in the workplace. The campaign is intended to lower chemical, biological, and other dangerous substance exposure in the workplace.

2004 bargaining round opens

Article Abstract:

The 2004 industry bargaining round in Sweden has seven industry unions presenting their demands. The most important of the demands are pay increases, reduction in number of working hours, and an improvement in the occupational health services and employment security.
