Technological and spatial factors related to organizational communication structure

Article Abstract:

Embedded and utilitarian elements affect the relationship between organizational communications structure and technological and spatial factors. Embedded elements provide a basic framework for interaction while utilitarian elements determine which of the many possible communication structures occur. The analysis of communication gradients is most appropriate for examining embedded elements such as physical features, dispersions of actors and information fields. Network analysis, on the other hand, is most suitaable for examining such utilitarian elements as role sets, mobility and communication channels.

Job and organizational characteristics, accountability, and employee influence

Article Abstract:

Zero-order correlations show that job and organizational characteristics, accountability and employee influence are interrelated. Analysis shows that the degree of accountability becomes greater as the hierarchical level increases. Accountability also increases as employees become less uncertain of their work and perceive their performance as observable and verifiable. Active implementation of accountability is needed since it is not an inherent part of organizational systems.
