The Managerial Mind

Article Abstract:

Effective management is both an art and a science. A manager cannot manage effectively without power, however good managers will use this power carefully and discretely. Effective managers get jobs done through persuasion, suggestion and example. Self-confidence, aggressiveness and a strong personality are important qualities for a manager to have. These qualities must be tempered with tact and judgement. Care must be taken not to stifle an employee's initiative. A manager may struggle at times between such things as personal ambition, loyalties, ethics and company demands. The function of a manager is of vital importance to an organization today. The contribution of each manager will in the end determine whether or not a company prospers.

Training with an Eye on the Future

Article Abstract:

An effective supervisor is a team player, according to Lillian S. Lee, assistant operations manager of the Tanforan Branch of the Bank of America in San Bruno, California. A supervisor should continually assess the personnel under his authority and give them training and opportunities to grow. After a supervisor identifies candidates for future promotions they should be given opportunities to make decisions. According to Lee, it is important for a supervisor to have control of a situation to be effective. A supervisor's control will always be tested both by superiors and subordinates for a variety of reasons. A useful management tool can be to segmentize a policy step by step so that the staff will understand what is required of them.

Article Abstract:

Many health and safety laws apply as much to offices as other work premises. An environmental audit of an office can consider many points; the building itself, water quality and hygiene, electrical safety, temperature and noise, storage of materials and lighting.
