Whatever happened to company training centres?

Article Abstract:

Residential training is increasing in popularity. Many companies, especially in the financial and service sectors, are opening their own centers. Company centers can offer convenience, can provide better facilities than hotels, and can be rapidly appreciating assets. Residential training centers are not advantageous for all companies, however. They can fail to accommodate a company's changing needs, they require major capital investment, and their surroundings and facilities can detract from concentration on training. There is a trend toward smaller group sessions in training, and most companies use a combination of their own training staffs and outside experts in training programs.

Twilight study sheds new light on craft development

Article Abstract:

Cussons Group Limited joined with Salford College of Technology (Manchester, England) to develop a craft development program to help its work force to broaden and improve their skills. Participation in the program has given workers the ability to engage in a high degree of cross-trade work.
