Worker participation in diverse settings: does the form affect the outcome, and if so, who benefits?

Article Abstract:

Recent research into workplace innovations has focused on the outcomes of off-line employee participation programmes as compared with on-line work reorganisation schemes and on the main beneficiaries of each type of approach. It has used surveys of workers in three occupational groups in the telecommunications and clothing industries. It concluded that both employees and companies can benefit from self-managed teams and that on-line or team-based participation is most effective in boosting employee motivation.
