HR issues

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong corporations have not paid enough attention to human resource management issues, which may account for their failure to retain employees. Human resource issues did get some attention in 1987 when many employees left because of uncertainty over the fate of Hong Kong once it reverts to China's control in 1997. However, these uncertainties have abated as China seems to favor maintaining the colony as it is after 1997. Perhaps the best way to retain employees is to send them to training programs for which they are obliged to stay in the same firm for a period commensurate with the length of training.

Company health care in the UK - issues and opportunities

Article Abstract:

A more coordinated and value-driven health program should be offered by United Kingdom employers to be more responsive to the needs of their employees. In this way, all aspects of employee health will be covered while providing employers a way to measure employee performance. Any approach that would be formulated must be also capable of demonstrating bottom-line improvement and of coordinating and maximizing the use of private- and public-sector health care.
