A health care treatment

Article Abstract:

Reasons for high US expenditures on health care include expensive medical advances, the aging population, the shortage of primary care doctors and fraud. One solution involves health insurance purchasing cooperatives which would eliminate underwriters and purchase health insurance based on the average cost of health care in the region. An overview of the elements of Clinton's health care reform plan is also presented, plus an analysis of managed care and forecasts of the impact of reform on the insurance industry.

Health care flexible spending arrangements

Article Abstract:

Employers can provide health care coverage for their employees through flexible spending arrangements (FSAs) in which only particular types of medical expenses are reimbursed under the plan. The IRS allows health plans, dependent care assistance programs and group-term life insurance for inclusion in FSAs. Employees benefit from this arrangement because the premiums are not subject to tax. The cost of membership in FSAs is partly shouldered by the employee.
