Any willing provider is deceptive medicine

Article Abstract:

States considering passage of health insurance laws should examine the concept of 'any willing provider,' which compels a health care network to accept any doctor, hospital or pharmacy. These networks need the ability to select suitable providers to promote high quality care. The law would also interfere with a network's capacity to negotiate with providers to limit costs. Examples are given of possible effects of the law on small business employers and health maintenance organizations.

Health care facing step-by-step changes

Article Abstract:

Health care reform will benefit some consumers as it improves the access to medical care for more consumers but it may curtail the choice of health care options. The price and the quality of health care will determine the choice of health care option. The health insurance industry will remain in operation but in a consulting rather than a marketing function. The health insurance industry must make its desires known in the political arena concerning health care reform.

A call to arms

Article Abstract:

Polls have shown that Pres Clinton's healthcare reform crusade was politically disastrous. The administration apparently failed to notice that the public, which once saw the plan as a bold initiative, came to see it as a potential threat to the entire economic system. The effect of this blunder on the Nov 1994 elections, at which the Republicans made unprecedented gains, is discussed.
