Insurers fighting chemical makers in Superfund battle

Article Abstract:

The property/casualty insurance industry is concerned about statements from the Chemical Manufacturers Assn that claim the industry supported new taxes for chemical manufacturers in 1994 during the Superfund reform attempts. Only 20% of the property/casualty insurance industry supported the $800 million in taxes but those insurers are denying it. The other 80% of the industry wants the association to support Superfund change and end the exaggerations.
