Best personal lines markets: minorities, rural areas offer opportunities

Article Abstract:

The property and casualty market may seem saturated in some areas, but rural areas and urban minority populations are often underserved and may provide independent agents with sales opportunities. Some companies, such as Aetna Life & Casualty Co., have established initiatives to reach middle-class people in these areas. Growth opportunities are present in writing policies for powerboats, snowmobiles and second homes being purchased by higher income individuals.

Reward small accounts for good behavior

Article Abstract:

Businesses whose insurance premiums are under $100,000 are often not rewarded for keeping their claims low. Insurers understand why such policyholders cannot expect premium reductions, but the policyholders probably do not. Insurers and their agents should help such customers understand how premiums are determined and why it is important to maintain good loss control.
