Bounty from the bar

Article Abstract:

The UK government will change the law so pension funds are divided when a couple divorces. This will benefit ex-wives especially. The government had proposed a different solution which would have meant the ex-wife having to wait for her husband to retire, and losing a pension when he died. Pension payments will be offset against the tax allowance of both partners, which will boost their incomes. Pension splitting is unlikely to be implemented prior to 1998.

Paperless plan administration of distributions and loans

Article Abstract:

Electronic data and voice response technology (ED VRS) can be integrated into the distribution and loan process to eliminate paper-based application forms and ensure secure transactions. ED VRS technology allows participants to receive distributions and loans using personal identification numbers and their social security numbers. The IRS is still evaluating the security involved in this system and its compliance with the Internal Revenue code.

Supreme court decision on who is an employee affects benefits

Article Abstract:

ERISA has set the distinction between an employee and an independent contractor.
